Reaction Papers  (15% of your grade)

Each student will be required to reflect upon your current knowledge of instructional technology.

Two (2) reaction papers will be submitted on May 18 and August 3, 2004. Reaction papers are like personal memos to the instructor. They are your reactions, feelings, observations, or critiques about what is happening in the course. They may be stimulated by something you have read or discussions in class. They may be in the form of questions that you would like to have answered or discussed. They may be contributions of experiences you have had that are directly related to the course.

The purpose of reaction papers is for the instructor to learn what ideas are being entertained by participants in the course. They are used as a method to learn more about individuals in the course.

Minimum length is two pages typed.  Save it as a .rtf file, attach it via email and send it to me.

The following are some guiding questions for your first reaction paper.  These are only intended to be a guide for you about the types of "reactions" I would like to see.  Please do not feel as if you must answer each and every question. More questions may be posed in your weekly activities as we begin working together.
  • What have your experiences been in instructional technology?
  • After exploring our course web site, give me your first impression of its relevance to you and your current/future job.
  • What curiosities do you have about instructional technology?  How do you think this course will help you investigate these curiosities further?
  • What specific interests do you have related to instructional technology?
  • What do you think the role of research is in our field?
  • What questions would you like answered in this course?  What discussion topics will interest you most?
  • As a student of instructional technology, what would you suggest I do as the instructor to facilitate your learning?

The following are some guiding questions for your second reaction paper.  These are only intended to be a guide for you about the types of "reactions" I would like to see.  Please do not feel as if you must answer each and every question.

  • What do you now know about instructional technology that you did not know prior to enrolling in this course?
  • What is the most interesting thing you have learned so far?
  • What questions/curiosities do you still have related to instructional technology?
  • What assignments/readings/activities have facilitated your learning the most in this course?
  • Are there particular venues where you see instructional technology becoming the norm rather than the exception?
  • What do you think the future holds for instructional technology?  What do you think your future role will be in instructional technology?
